Spam from the Website
Understanding Webspam and How We Handle It
What is Webspam?
Webspam is a persistent issue across the internet, and our systems are frequently targeted through web forms and registrations. This results in annoying and misleading messages such as:
"Looking to boost your staff company's hiring power?"
"Global RPO's, the top RPO firm in India!"
These types of messages not only clutter inboxes but also undermine trust in our systems.
Why We Take Webspam Seriously
Every system-generated alert should be taken seriously. If spam messages frequently come through our system, it erodes trust in the platform. Our goal is to minimize spam so that when you receive a system alert, you can confidently engage with it.
Types of Webspam
Webspam generally falls into two categories:
1. Bot Traffic (Automated Spam)
- Created by programs that crawl the internet and automatically submit spam messages.
- Easier to identify due to programmatic behavior.
- We mitigate bot traffic using tools like reCAPTCHA by Google to filter out automated spam.
2. Human Traffic (Manual Spam)
- Sent manually by individuals, often from regions like China or parts of Africa.
- Harder to block because it doesn’t follow predictable patterns.
- Spammers frequently change email addresses to bypass filters.
How We Combat Webspam
To keep spam out of your inbox, we deploy multiple strategies:
- Blocking VPN Traffic: Many spammers use VPNs to hide their location. Our system detects and blocks known VPN users.
- Geographical Filtering: We restrict traffic from regions known for high spam activity.
- Pattern Recognition:
- Support teams are CC’d on all messages and review spam reports.
- If multiple agents report spam from the same sender, we analyze patterns and block recurring offenders.
- IP Tracking & Filtering:
- We monitor IP addresses to identify and block sources of repeated spam.
- However, this must be done carefully to avoid filtering out legitimate messages.
Ongoing Efforts
Spam prevention is a continuous effort. While no system can completely eliminate spam, we remain vigilant in adapting our strategies to mitigate it effectively.
If you notice an increase in spam messages, please report them so we can analyze and block them accordingly.
